TFRS 2008 single-day class offerings are listed below. You may select one single-day (8 hr) class on Saturday and/or one single-day (8 hr) class on Sunday. 
In addition, you may select up to two alternate class choices to be used in the event that your primary choice has no openings left. Please make careful note of the class numbers when filling in the registration form. 
Registration Fee: Register before August 1st and pay only $100 per day (classes which include live burns are $125*) 
Registrations received after August 1st will be charged $150 per day (classes which include live burns will be $175*) 

* all classes utilizing live burns include an asbestos inspection/abatement fee in the cost.

Facial Hair and SCBA Safety Policy:
For the safety of our students, any classes that require the use of SCBA will enforce the no facial hair policy. In effect, any student with facial hair that interferes with the facepiece seal, as determined by the instructor, will not be allowed to participate in the practical portions of the class. No exceptions.

Full Protective Gear/SCBA Safety Policy: Any classes which require full protective gear/SCBA are marked as such. The student will need to supply their own FULL turnout gear including bunker pants, coat, boots, gloves, helmet, hood, and breathing apparatus. We will provide refills of your air cylinders (please be sure the hydrotest dates are current as we cannot fill non-compliant cylinders).

)
Industrial Fire Response – Sat only  
Class Fee: $100 Includes Live Burn
The classroom includes portable and fixed extinguishers, systems, wheeled units, fire hoses and extinguisher placement in the plant.  The practical will include use of portable extinguishers and wheeled units on live Class A and Class B fires, operation of fixed systems, fighting live fires with hand hose lines and foam lines.  Students must wear incipient type fire gear.  

2)All Things Auto – Sun only  
Class Fee: $100

This class is an exploration into the automobile and tactical considerations that firefighters respond to with autos.  The class covers new car technologies, auto accidents, scene safety, stabilization, and car fire attack methods.  

3)Officer101- Company Officer–Sat only  
Class Fee: $100
Learn the basics of what it means to be an officer on a volunteer department in this class.  This class discusses what it means to be an officer - the qualities, job duties and conduct. First-in considerations including size-up and construction, leadership skills, crew safety and management, training and mentoring, and recruitment and retention are also discussed.   

4)Officer 201-Chief Officer –Sat only  
Class Fee: $100

This class explores the job of the chief officers of a volunteer department.  Students will discuss what qualities and characteristics make a good chief officer, important aspects of commanding a scene, recruitment and retention ideas, grant writing, and developing and implementing training programs and options that fit smaller budgets.  

5) Hose, Hooks, and Ladders – Sat only  
Class Fee: $100
Advanced practical skills sessions on hoselines, ventilation, ladders, and search are the meat of this class.  Students rotate through the skills and are given ample time to practice new and effective techniques. Full PPE is required.  

6) Firefighter Rescue – Sat only
Class Fee: $125

Students will explore the traumatic Line of Duty Deaths over the past 25 years and demonstrate the skills and evolutions necessary to facilitate a successful rescue of a downed firefighter. Special attention is added to problems and issues associated with small and volunteer Departments and the necessity for RIT
Full PPE and SCBA is required.  

7)Rapid Intervention Training– Train the Trainer – Sat only
Class Fee: $100

Taught by instructors who have been teaching RIT Operations for over ten years, this class defines what you need to accomplish and just how to do it.  The class covers departmental logistics and needs, basic training topics, and lesson plans for getting it done.  Students will visit a training structure that has been specifically designed for this type of training, and will be able to observe instructors and students in action.  Students are encouraged to bring their cameras.  

8) Wildland Firefighting – Sun only  
Class Fee: $100 Includes Live Burn

Learn the basics of Wildland firefighting and safety, tools and equipment, strategy and tactics, water supply and conservation, and protocols for assistance and working with State and Federal agencies. The class culminates with a hands-on controlled burn scenario.  Full PPE is required  

9) Auto Extrication – Sat or Sun  
Class Fee: $100

Students will be instructed on how to perform a variety of extrication maneuvers in a variety of real case scenarios, no two of which are the same.  Problem solving techniques will be taught using principles of auto extrication acquired in the basic class. Full PPE is required.  

10)Vehicle Extrication-School Bus Casualty – Sat or Sun
Class Fee: $100
This class will include an overview of personal safety, response, scene assessment, establishing command, staging, mass casualties, assessment, transporting, and special problems. Full PPE is Required.  

11)  Rural EMS – Sat  
Class Fee: $100

Topics discussed are long en route times, radio coverage problems, mutual aid and intercepts.  Time sensitive medical emergencies as well as environmental issues will start the day off. The class culminates with trauma skills and assessments, with an emphasis on off-road traumas (ATV, snowmobile and water sports accidents).

Pumper Operations – Sat or Sun  
Class Fee: $100

This class encompasses discussion of hydraulics, tank to pump procedures, failures.  The practical will include demonstrations of water flow from various sources. 
Full PPE is required.  

13) Wilderness Rescue – Sat or Sun  
Class Fee: $100

This class will cover navigation, establishing a grid system, ropes and knots, communications, hoisting and lowering, packaging for transport, and removing victims from the wilderness. Students need to dress appropriately and bring a compass. 

14) Real World RIT – Sun  
Class Fee: $125 

Real World
RIT puts the skills learned in previous classes into action using extremely intense and timed scenarios, with volunteer department issues specifically in mind. Full PPE and SCBA are required.  

15) MABAS – Sat or Sun  
Class Fee: $100

This class covers everything you need to know or ever wanted to know about Mutual Aid Box Alarm Systems. Students will learn about the history, how to set up MABAS in the area as well as how it fits into the big picture.  

16) EMS Training – Sat or Sun  
Class Fee: $100
This course will cover inhalation injuries and burn care as they are related to the fire-ground.  And, as a wrap up all aspects of Helicopter Transport will be covered to include; when to call, how to request, and landing zone set-up, security.  

17) Tactical Decision-making – Sun only  
Class Fee: $100

Through the use of one of the best simulators on the market today, students will be able to hone their skills at tactics and decision-making on such scenes as car fires, grass fires, structure fires, MVA’s, first aid/responder emergencies, and a plethora of other scenarios that today’s volunteer fire service is responding to.  

18) Basic Fireground Operations – Sat only
Class Fee: $125 Includes Live Burn

Live fire allows the beginning firefighter to gain real world experience at firefighting.  Students will learn the proper tactical considerations for fire attack, the back up line, and ventilation, and will conduct firefighting operations under live fire conditions. Full PPE and SCBA required.   

19) Survive Alive! – Sat or Sun  
Class Fee: $125

Designed to place you in challenging circumstances that require advanced skills on the fireground, this physically demanding course will enhance your survivability on the fireground.  Students will be exposed to techniques that could be critical if lost or disoriented in the line of duty, as well as when, why, and how to call a MAYDAY. Full PPE and SCBA are required. 

20) Farm Rescue and Extrication – Sat only  
Class Fee: $100

Unique to the volunteer fire service, farm scenes present inherent and very specific problems.  Students will discuss issues that occur only “down on the farm”.  Specifically, storage building rescues and heavy machinery incidents will be discussed and demonstrated. Full PPE is required.
